Q161.
A man spends 1/3rd of his salary on food  and 2/5th on house rent. Then he saves an amount of Rs. 2000 per month. What is his monthly salary ?
1) Rs.6500 2) Rs. 7500
3) Rs.9000 4) Rs.12000
5)None of these
Answer : Rs. 7500
Explanation : Let, the man's income be Rs.x.
Expenditure on food = x/3 and expenditure on house rent = 2x/5
His saving = x - (x/3 + 2x/5) = 4x/15
So,4x/15 = 2000
or x =( 2000 X 15 ) /4 = 7500.

Q162.
The ratio between the present ages of A and B is 2 : 3 respectively. Four years ago, the ratio between their ages was 5 : 8. respectively. What will be A’s age after 7 years ?
1) 29 yrs 2) 35 yrs
3) 31 yrs 4) 33 yrs
5)None of these
Answer : 31 yrs
Explanation :
Let, the present ages of A and B be 2x years and 3x years respectively.
So, (2x-4)/(3x-4) = 5/8
or 16x - 32 = 15x -20
or  x = 12
Therefore, the Ages of A after 7 years = 2x + 7 = 2 x 12 + 7 = 31 years

Q163.
Three men or eight boys can do a piece of work in 17 days. How many days will two men and six boys together take to finish the same work ?
1) 9 days 2) 11 days
3) 14 days 4) 12 days
5)None of these
Answer : 12 days
Explanation :
3 men = 8 boys
2 m = (8/3)x2 =  16/3 boys.
(2 men + 6 boys) = (16/2)+6 boys =  34/3boys
8 boys can complete the work in 17 days
or 34/3boys boys can complete the work in x days
or (34/3) : 8 = 17 : x
or x =(17x8x3)/34  = 12 days

Q164.
Three- tenth of a number is equal to 36% of another number. If the sum of these two numbers is 88, then what is the value of the smaller number ?
1) 38 2) 40
3) 48 4) 56
5)None of these
Answer : 40
Explanation :
Let, one number be x.
The other number = (88 - x)
                x x 3/10 = (88 - x) x 36/100
= 30x = 3168 - 36x
x = 3168/66 = 48
The smaller number = 88 - 48 = 40

If the total cost of four tube-lights and three bulbs is Rs. 260 and the ratio between the cost of a  tube-lights and a bulb is 5 : 2 respectively. What is the total cost one tube-light and six bulbs ?
1) Rs. 210 2) Rs. 130
3) Rs. 180 4) Rs. 170
5)None of these
Answer : Rs. 170
Explanation :
Let, the C.P. of 1 tube light be Rs.5x
C.P. of 1 bulb = Rs. 2x
4 x 5x + 3 x 2x = 260
x = 260/26 = 10
C.P. of 1 tube light and 6 bulbs
= 5 x X + 6 x 2 xX
= 5 x 10 + 12 x 10 = Rs.170

Q170.
The income of A,B and C together is Rs.14500 and they spend  60%,65% and 70% of their income respectively. If their savings are in the ratio 14:21:15 . What is the income of  B ?
1) Rs.4000 2) Rs.4800
3) Rs.5600 4) Rs.6000
5)None of these
Answer : Rs.6000
Explanation : We know that, income - expenditure = saving
Let, their income are 100% individually.
So, A's saving = 100 - 60= 40% ; B's saving = 100 - 65= 35% ; C's saving = 100 - 70= 30%
But their saving ratio are 14:21:15.
Then, A's income , 40% = 14 or 100% =( 14/40) x 100 = 35
B's income , 35% = 21 or 100% =( 21/35) x 100 = 60
C's income , 30% = 15 or 100% =( 15/30) x 100 = 50
So, 35x + 60x + 50x = Rs.14500
or 145x = Rs.14500
or x = 100
Therefore income of B= 100x60 = Rs.6000.
