RBI Monetary Policy decides Repo Rate stable at 5.25%

The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), led by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, unanimously decided to hold the benchmark repo rate steady at 5.25% during its June 2026 meeting. The central bank maintained a neutral stance.

The central bank maintained a neutral stance to actively balance price stability with economic growth amid rising global uncertainties, such as the geopolitical conflict in West Asia and volatile crude oil prices.

Key Macroeconomic Indicators & Projections
The RBI revised its key economic projections for the financial year 2026-27 (FY27) to account for heightened global commodity pressures:

GDP Growth Forecast: Lowered to 6.6% (down from the previous estimate of 6.9%) due to global supply disruptions and monsoon uncertainty.

CPI Inflation Forecast: Raised to 5.1% (up from 4.6%) driven by elevated crude oil prices, which averaged around USD 110 per barrel.Core Inflation: Remained structurally stable at approximately 3.7%.

Current RBI Operational Framework Rates
Along with the repo rate, all other aligned benchmark liquidity facility rates remain unchanged:

Policy Indicator                                           Current Applicable Rate
Policy Repo Rate                                                5.25%

Immediate Financial Impact
1. Impact on BorrowersStable EMIs: Retail loans benchmarked to the Repo Linked Lending Rate (RLLR)-such as home, car, and personal loans-will see no immediate increase in monthly outlays.
Corporate Credit: Borrowing costs for businesses will hold steady, offering a predictable planning window for capital expenditure.

2. Impact on Depositors Fixed Deposit (FD) Rates: Banks are likely to maintain their current peak interest rates on retail term deposits, keeping yields attractive for fixed-income investors.

3. Impact on Financial Markets Equities: Rate-sensitive sectors like Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto, and Nifty Bank may witness choppy trading as the market digests the downward revision in growth alongside the rate pause.
