One Rank One Pension (ORP): Manohar Parrikar announces Top 10 highlights


  • The much awaited One Rank One Pension (ORP) scheme finally going to be solve.
  • The Defence minister Manohar Parrikar declared,recently.
  • According to the the Defence minister, the government has decided to implement the "one rank, one pension" scheme.
  • The govt. assures an equal pension to three million military personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, regardless of the date of retirement.

Followig are the top 10 highlights on the OROP:

  • 1. OROP will be implemented from July 1, 2014 and the base year would be 2013.
  • 2. The govt will break down pension of ex-servicemen.
  • 3. All arrears will be settled in one go.
  • 4. The estimated cost to implement OROP would be between Rs 8,000 crore to Rs 10,000.
  • 5. Pension of ex-servicemen will be revised every five years.
  • 6. Re-fixed pension will be the average of minimum and maximum pension in 2013.
  • 7. OROP arrears to be paid in 4 half-yearly installments.
  • 8. Those drawing pensions above the average will be protected.
  • 9. A one-member judicial committee will be constituted. It will give reports on equalisation period in 6 months.
  • 10. Personnel who retire voluntarily will not be covered under OROP scheme.
