Western Railways achieved a milestone of loading 100th textile express
Highlights:
- Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway achieved a milestone of loading “100th textile train” from Chalthan in Surat area to Sankrail in Kharagpur Division, SER.
- The Textile Express fetched a total revenue of Rs 10.2 crores for the Railways.
- First train was flagged off on September 1, 2021, by Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, Darshana Jardosh.
- It was flagged off from Udhna.
- The milestone of 100th textile train was achieved within five months, reflecting increasing confidence of Surat textile sector on the Railways.
- The first ‘textile parcel’ special train was flagged off in 2021.
- It comprised of 25 new modified goods wagons, that were customised for carrying textile material from Gujarat to Bihar.
- This move was aimed at boosting Surat’s textile market through faster, economical, and safer mode of transport.
- Textile traffic were loaded in Customised New Modified Goods (NMG), for the first time at Udhna New Goods Shed.
- Textile parcel special train consisted of 25 NMG wagons.
- The textile trains are significant for textile market of Surat area because they are an economical, faster and safer mode of transport.
- This move has provided an opportunity to tap huge potential of textile market.
- It will cater to the transportation needs of textile industry go-down hubs in Surat City.
