First Teachers University To Be Set Up In Delhi

Highlights:

  • The Delhi Cabinet approved the establishment of Delhi Teachers' University on 20 December.
  • After Class 12, the university will provide a four-year integrated teacher education program.
  • BA & B.Ed, BSc & B.Ed, and BCom & B.Ed courses will all be included in the curriculum.
  • Those enrolled in the institution would also be linked to Delhi government schools for training reasons while pursuing these courses.
  • In the next session of the Delhi Assembly, the government will introduce the "Delhi Teachers University Bill 2021" to address the issue.
Delhi Teachers University: A Fact File
  • The Delhi Teachers' University will be a state-run institution. It would be dedicated to preparing high-quality teachers for Delhi at all levels of education.
  • For the duration of the course, university students will be assigned to Delhi government schools to gain hands-on experience. 
  • It would assist students in gaining superior practical as well as theoretical understanding.
  • In the fields of education studies, leadership, and policy, the University will serve as a center of excellence in pre-service and in-service teacher preparation.
  • In teacher training, the university will endeavor to close the gap between practice, research, and policy. It will also keep up with the ever-changing concept and realities of quality education in Delhi.
  • Admission to the new university will begin in the 2022-23 academic year. 
  • Bakkarwala in west Delhi will be home to the Delhi Teacher's University.
  • The four-year ITEP will begin in the academic year 2022-23. Initially, the course would be provided in a pilot mode at 50 interdisciplinary institutions in India.
  •  The National Testing Agency (NTA) will administer a National Common Entrance Test to those interested in taking the course (NCET).
