International Day of Neutrality observed On 12 December
Highlights:
- International Day of Neutrality is a day Identified By United Nations held on 12 December each year.
- It boosts public awareness of the importance of neutrality in international relations.
- It was officially announced by a UN General Assembly explanation adopted in February 2017 and first celebrated on 12 December 2017.
- On 2 February 2017, the UN General Assembly embraced without a vote resolution 71/275 - presented by Turkmenistan, recognized by the UN as a permanently neutral state since 12 December 1995
- It noted the connection between the preservation of peace and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and announced 12 December as the International Day of Neutrality.
- Neutrality defined as the legal status stemming from the abstention of a state from all participation in a war between other states, the upkeep of a perspective of objectivity toward the belligerents, and the recognition by the contentious of this non-voting and objectivity is critically vital for the United Nations to achieve and retain the confidence and cooperation of all to operate independently and mainly in situations that are politically charged.
