SAARC Charter Day 2021 is on 8th December

- The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) celebrates Charter Day every year on December 8th to commemorate the signing of the SAARC Charter.
- The regional group is celebrating its 37th anniversary this year.
- The charter was signed at the First SAARC Summit in Dhaka, Bangladesh, by the Heads of State or Government of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
- The SAARC Charter was adopted on December 8, 1985, in Dhaka, during the group's first meeting.
- The leaders of eight South Asian countries signed the Charter: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
- The primary goal of SAARC, as stated in its charter, is to work together to enhance the welfare of people in the area and to raise their standard of life via social and economic growth.
