Dr. Rajiv Nigam To Receive 2022 Joseph A. Cushman Award

Highlights:

• Former Chief Scientist at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Dr Rajiv Nigam, has been selected for the 2022 Joseph A. Cushman Award.
• Dr Nigam, the first Indian to be chosen for the prestigious award, was elected for Excellence in Foraminiferal Research.
• He has been chosen for his outstanding lifetime contributions to foraminifera, also known as microfossil research.
• Dr Nigam will receive the award at the Cushman Reception during the 2022 Geological Society of America meeting in Denver, Colorado, USA, from 9-12 October 2022.
• Joseph A. Cushman Award was established by USA based Cushman foundation for foraminiferal research in 1979.

• Joseph A. Cushman Award was established in 1979 by USA based Cushman foundation for foraminiferal research.
• It was established to honour researchers who have made outstanding contributions in the field of foraminiferology.
• Since then, 41 Scientists from different countries worldwide have been presented with this international award.
• Dr Rajiv Nigam is the first Indian Citizen who was selected for this lifetime achievement award based on his outstanding research work on foraminifera (microfossil).
