Global Threat Assessment Report 2021 Released
Highlights:
- The Global Threat Assessment Report was released by We Protect Global Alliance.
- Child sexual abuse is a chronically underfunded issue and midst of COVID-19 pandemic, cases of child sexual exploitation and abuse online have increased.
- In the last two years, child sexual exploitation and online abuse reporting have reached their highest level.
- According to The Internet Watch Foundation, there is an increase of 77% in child ‘self-generated’ sexual material between 2019 to 2020.
- As per the report, currently, 37% of children use tools to detect online grooming.
- Online grooming is where someone befriends a child online and builds their trust to exploit them and cause them harm.
- Prioritise prevention activities against abuse online
- Create safe online environments for children
- Stakeholders, who have a crucial role in protecting the children, should improve the response.
