Henley passport index 2021: India ranked at 90th
Highlights:
- The Henley Passport Index 2021 was released recently in which India’s rank has dropped by six places as compared to 2020 index.
- Henley Passport Index lists the most travel-friendly passports of the world.
- This year India has been ranked at 90th.
- This Index was released at a time when countries are relaxing the travel rules for international visitors after two years since the beginning of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
- Henley Passport Index ranks the passports of countries on the basis of number of destinations their holders can visit without getting visa in advance.
- Rankings are decided by analysing the data provided by ‘International Air Transport Association (IATA)’.
- This year Japan and Singapore have topped the list as their passports holders are allowed to travel across 192 countries visa-free.
- Japan secured the top position for the third year in a row.
- South Korea and Germany were at the second position.
- Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Pakistan are among the least powerful.
- India was ranked at 84th position in 2020. But in 2021, its position has dropped to 90th position. India’s passport holders are allowed to travel to 58 countries visa-free.
- India shares this rank with Tajikistan and Burkina Faso.
- It is noted that,the Henley Passport Index was prepared by London-based Henley and Partners, which is a global citizenship and residence advisory firm.
- It covers 199 passports and 227 destinations.
