Mallikarjun Kharge Reappointed Leader Of Opposition In Rajya Sabha .
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was recognised as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, following his re-election to the Upper House.
Mallikarjun Kharge was a member of the Rajya Sabha till June 25.
The chairman C P Radhakrishnan, recognised him as the Leader of Opposition with effect from June 26.
Brief History: Born on July 21, 1942, in the Bidar district of Karnataka.
- Mr.Kharge comes from a humble background and rose through the ranks starting as a student union leader in Gulbarga (Kalaburagi).
- A legal professional by education, he is a staunch advocate of constitutional law, secularism, and the upliftment of marginalized communities.
- He is also a follower of Buddhist philosophy and pioneered the construction of the landmark Buddha Vihara in Kalaburagi.
- His son, Priyank Kharge, is also a prominent politician and cabinet minister in Karnataka.
