  • According to report released by global startup ecosystem map Startupblink, India was ranked 37th out of 125 countries in global startup ecosystem in 2017.
  • Startupblink is a global startup ecosystem map with tens of thousands of registered startups, coworking spaces, and accelerators.]Its report prepared in association with ANSYS Startup Program measures startup ecosystem strength and activity. 
  • It includes global ranking index of 125 countries and 900 cities, measuring their startup ecosystem strength and activity. 
  • The rankings of country are based on thousands of data points gathered from various sources, such as incubators and accelerators that appear on StartupBlink global ecosystem.
  • Top 5 Countries in Global startup ecosystem in 2017 are United States (1st), United Kingdom (2nd), Canada (3rd), Israel (4th) and Germany (5th). 
  • Small nations of less than 10 million inhabitants like Sweden (6th), Denmark (7th), Switzerland (8th), and Singapore (10th) were placed in the top 10.
  • In Asia, the list was topped by Singapore (10th) and was closely followed by China (12th), South Korea (17th), and Japan (20th). 
  • In Africa, the list was topped by South Africa (38th) followed by Kenya (53rd), Egypt (54th), and Nigeria (57th).
  • India’s rank indicates that more has to be done in terms of ease of doing business, startup policies, and complicated tax compliance.
  • The Indian startup ecosystem is also yet to see major exits which is seen as important measure to gauge the maturity of a startup ecosystem.
  • India ranked below Latin American countries Mexico and Chile which stood at 30 and 33 respectively. 
  • Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Mumbai featured in the list top cities in the global ranking.

  • Uttar Pradesh Government launched Ganga Hariteema Yojana (also known as Ganga Greenery scheme) in 27 districts of the state located on the bank of river Ganga.
  • It was launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a function organized on the bank of Sangam the confluence of rivers of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.
  • The scheme aims at enhancing green cover in catchment areas of river Ganga and control land erosion.
  • Under it tree plantation will be carried out in 1 Km areas from banks of river. 
  • General people will also be encouraged for tree plantation on their private lands under ‘One Person One Tree’ slogan.

Best Educational Film

The 65th National Film Award for the Best Educational Film goes to The Girls We Were and The Women We Are.

Best Non Feature Film

Water Baby has been adjudged as the Best Non-Feature Film this year.

 Taapsee Pannu on Ghazi winning the Best Telugu Film Award

Reacting to Ghazi winning the Best Telugu Film award at the 65th National Film Awards, actor Taapsee Pannu said, "I am elated with the news about Ghazi winning the Best Telugu film. This is the third time I have had the opportunity to be a part of a National Award Winning film. Even though I had a special appearance in the film, it was personally a very satisfying part for me as an actor. I’m ecstatic with the news about the film winning the National Award Honour."

Newton director Amit V Masurkar on the big win

After his film being adjudged as the Best Hindi Film, Newton director Amit V Masurkar said, "I want to thank the jury for awarding Newton the National Award for Best (Hindi) Film. I hope this award and the film's commercial success creates a bigger space for relevant political cinema. This wouldn't have been possible without an incredible cast, crew and the love and support from the people of Chhattisgarh where we shot the film." 

Pankaj Tripathi on winning Special Mention at the 65th National Film Awards

Pankaj Tripathi, who played the role of a CRPF Officer in Newton has won a Special Mention Award. Expressing his happiness on the big win, the actor said, "I am absolutely delighted. I had no idea I was even in the running. It feels amazing to know that the whole country thought my role in Newton was one of my best and to win the Special Mention Award at the highest film award in India is just exhilarating. My director and co-actors made it so easy for me to act in this film."

Best Male Playback Singer

The award goes to K.J Yesudas for his song "Poy Maranja Kalam" in  the movie Viswasapoorvam Mansoor.

Best Children's Film

The film Mhorkya directed by Amar Bharat Deokar wins the award for Best Children's Film .

Best Direction

Filmmaker Jayaraj gets the award for his Malayalam film Bhayanakam.

Bhanita Das wins the award for the Assamese film Village Rockstars.

  • The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was awarded the National Intellectual Property (IP) Award 2018 in the category 'Top R&D Institution/Organisation for Patents and Commercialisation' .
  • Union Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu gave out the award to CSIR Director General Girish Sahni at a function organised by the Indian Intellectual Property Office and Confederation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (CII) to celebrate the World IP Day. 
  • CSIR Laboratories have been developing and providing technology focused at the unmet need and the cutting edge knowledge base and human resource on the other for socio-economic development in the country.
  • The CSIR S&T domains range from environment to health and drinking water, from food, housing, energy to specialty chemicals and petrochemicals, glass and ceramics to mining, metals and minerals, medicinal plants, leather to machinery, instrumentation and strategic sectors including aerospace. 
  • It is contributing for the Missions such as Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat, Samarth Bharat, Make in India, Innovate for India, Startup India and Skill India.
  • The CSIR has been ranked ninth in the world among the 1,207 government institutions, with an overall global ranking of 75 in the world, covering 5,250 institutions, as per the statement.
