INS Sandhayak has been decommissioned

  • The Navy's oldest hydrographic survey ship, INS Sandhayak, was decommissioned after 40 years of service to the nation.
  • INS Sandhayak conducted over 200 major hydrographic surveys along the Indian peninsula's western and eastern coasts, the Andaman Sea, and in neighbouring countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
  • The ship also participated in significant operations such as Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka (1987), Operation Rainbow for Humanitarian Assistance following the 2004 Tsunami, and the inaugural Indo-US HADR Exercise Tiger-Triumph in 2019.
