CIPET is renamed as Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology

Highlights:

  • Centre has been renamed the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), a premier national institution under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, as Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET).
  • The announcement was made by the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda.
  • The name change has been registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975, that is, Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 1975.
  • CIPET will support the growth of the entire petrochemical sector with a focus on Academics, Skilling, Technology Support, and Research.
  • The primary objective of the Institute is to contribute towards the growth of the plastics industry through a combined program of education and research.
  • The Institute, so far, has created closer ties with industries with an aim to create innovative plastic-based solutions that are resource-efficient and marketable.
CIPET : A fact file
  • CIPET was established in 1968 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu with a tie-up with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
  • It has various campuses across the country.
  • Admission to these centres is through the joint entrance examination conducted every year by CIPET.
